Standard practice for any Managed Services Provider is to provide a Quarterly Business Review (QBR). However, there is no established standard on what this quarterly touchpoint should look like. Too often QBRs are performed by Account Managers or mid-level Technicians. Unfortunately, this approach does not provide the business value that QBRs need to provide. To bridge the gap between technology and business needs, a technical business executive must provide this review. Ideally, this person should have experience running their own business and making the difficult decisions on which technology solutions to budget for and what timelines the organization can accommodate change. However, this person also needs to have a deep technical understanding.

The format and tools used are also critical to maximizing value. Excel spreadsheets and Word documents have their place but are far from ideal for QBRs. A tool that automatically brings information together from technician’s recommendations, services tickets, quotations, and other reports is needed to provide a true executive view of an organization’s technology needs, roadmap, and budget.
